Smoothies for Healthy Digestion
Digestive health is important for more than just comfort and enjoyment of food. The importance of gut health has been linked to brain health and overall well being. A morning smoothie is an excellent way to start the day off with gut-friendly foods that provide a boost of vitamins and minerals. Here are some foods that you can add to your morning routine.
Kefir or Yogurt – Adding foods with probiotics will help digestion and boost your immune system. If you are vegan or dairy-free you can add coconut kefir for the same benefits.
Bananas and Avocados – Bananas and Avocados are both good sources of fiber – essential for digestion. They are also both packed with important nutrients. A banana will add flavor and an avocado will give your smoothie a creamy texture.
Fresh Ginger – Ginger has long been known for its ability to aid digestion, prevent bloating and ease nausea. If you have a strong blender simply peel and chop to add. You can also grate or zest before adding to your smoothie.
Carrots and Beets – Both are high in soluble fiber (compared to insoluble fiber) so they’re easier on a sensitive gut.
Turmeric – Known for it’s anti-inflammatory benefits. Add 1/2 a teaspoon.
Raspberries – Help to prevent constipation because of their magnesium content and will naturally sweeten your smoothie.
